Like most human beings, I am guilty of procrastination at times. Usually on tasks that I perceive as unimportant or of negligible impact – but my perception is very often wrong – as was the case this week.
You may already know that I am a big fan of the Master Series CGI programs. I use them myself both personally and professionally. I even use one of the free scripts – MasterFeedback – for simple forms on dlperry.com. Recently one of these forms was ‘discovered’ and used to spam me (no-one else – the form already prevented that).
Now I had seen notices and articles from ‘the willmaster’ saying that we should go upgrade to the newest version, which featured additional anti-spam functionality, etc., etc.. I read, and summarily ignored each and every one, with thoughts such as …ah,not a big deal…too much trouble…I’ll get to it….yada, yada, yada.
Well, I got to it this week – after noticing an increase in amount and frequency of spam coming from the form. The upgrade was painless, and no changes were required to the existing forms. Even then I was not convinced this upgrade would have any noticable effect (I know, I know…stubborn), but….
Lo and Behold – the spam has stopped! At least for now. I am not naive enough to think it will hold – spammers are a persistent lot – but the experience did serve to teach me an apparently forgotten lesson -
When your programmer speaks – LISTEN!
